Schne-frost, Löningen, Germany, has announced that its frozen pre-baked potato products from now on will be made exclusively with rapeseed oil, also known as canola oil.

The changeover includes not only such classics as wedges and french fries, but also croquettes, potato pockets and hash browns. Rapeseed oil is naturally rich in unsaturated fat, has a high content of essential omega oils and is therefore good for a balanced diet.

Canola oil, as it is called in North America, was developed in Canada and is marketed as a alternative to corn oil and other traditional cooking oils, and is also a key ingredient in many processed foods. Its reputation as a healthy oil has created high demand in markets around the globe, and overall it is the third most widely consumed vegetable oil in the world.
