Fast food chain Subway plans to expand its retail footprint across India by opening new outlets across the country.

The company is also looking to upgrade its existing outlets, which cover an area of 300ft².

Subway country manager and area development manager Manpreet Gulri told fnbnews that the company will set up new outlets across India and will convert small format stores to large.

"Subway is planning to expand in India. At 500sq ft, the new restuarants planned will now be larger," Gulri added.

"Subway has many outlets at food courts, shopping malls, clubs and even on university campuses across India. These range between 200sq ft and 500sq ft. We will soon be refurbishing our outlets at upmarket locations in Delhi, such as Khan Market and New Friends Colony."

Speaking about chain's new offerings, Gulri said, "Apart from the Sub of the Day (which is cheaper than the regular sandwich), we now have Everyday Delights, which are priced below Rs 100. Currently, a regular Subway sandwich is priced above Rs 100."

In addition, the company has also firmed up its plans to launch online business in India.

"Initially, we would go McDonald's' way with a centralised number for taking orders, and then graduate to a Web-based sales model. Apart from bringing in more local flavours, the chain is keen to enhance its range of vegetarian sandwiches, and also bring in new items such as wraps from its international menu," Gulri concluded.
